You know the golden A1 rule: the conjugated verb is always the second element. A2 sentences get longer, so it helps to know what order the extra pieces — time, manner, place — usually go in.
Types you should know
Zeit → Art → Ort
time before manner before place
Verb Position 2
stays fixed no matter what comes first
See it in action
Position 1
Verb
Rest of sentence
Ich
fahre
morgen mit dem Zug nach Berlin.
Morgen
fahre
ich mit dem Zug nach Berlin.
Mit dem Zug
fahre
ich morgen nach Berlin.
Time → Manner → Place (TeKaMoLo)
When several details appear together, German usually orders them Temporal, Kausal, Modal, Lokal:
Time
Manner
Place
morgen
mit dem Zug
nach Berlin
gestern
schnell
nach Hause
Memory trick: TeKaMoLo — Time, Cause, Manner, Place. Whatever starts the sentence, the verb stays glued to position 2.
⚠ Common mistake: Don't put the subject first out of habit — "Morgen ich fahre" is wrong; the verb must stay second: "Morgen fahre ich..."
